Dear Friends and Family,

It seems unreal that today is the last day of camp. I’ve been at Merri-Mac for 11 weeks, but these last two have gone by the fastest.

For the oldest group of girls, the Sunnysiders, this is their final day as campers. They have spent the Third Session leading their tribes and setting the tone for the rest of camp.

“It was definitely really special. It’s kind of crazy to think that we were leaders, but I loved leading all the traditions,” said Anna K. when asked about her Sunnyside year.

On the last full day of camp, the Sunnysiders host a chapel. The chapel happened after breakfast this morning by the edge of Lake Doris. The Sunnysiders sat on the dock and shared the ways in which Merri-Mac has been a special and spiritually transformative place for them.

Liv S. said, “I thought it went pretty well. I cried a little bit, and I talked about some of my early camp memories, like when I would hang out with my friends in the lake.”

Today is also Tribe Fest at Camp Merri-Mac. All day, campers have been competing in a high-stakes competition of evening activities. Each session, the tribe with the most points wins the Banner, which will be presented tonight. Tribe Fest plays a major part in deciding the outcome of the session’s tribal competition.

“We have tribe stuff every day, but I love that you get to spend more time with the girls in your tribe today,” said Sophia M. “It gets your spirits up for next year.”

Once the Banner is presented, it will be time for campers to begin to say their goodbyes. This happens at Lakeside, another event that takes place on the shores of Lake Doris. Campers sing songs such as “All My Life’s a Circle” and “Shades of Evening.”

“My favorite camp tradition is Lakeside,” said Clarissa S. “I’m excited for it, but it’s sad because it also means I’m leaving my friends.”

Although it may feel like an ending, Lakeside is a wonderful opportunity for campers to reflect on their experience and be grateful for the friends they made.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all my friends from camp next year,” said Emily B. “It will also be great to grow up with camp.”
