Catch Me If You Can: Counselor Hunt and a Day of Adventure
Catch Me If You Can: Counselor Hunt and a Day of Adventure
Wednesday started off on a positive note with coffee cake and oatmeal for breakfast, a
favorite among many campers. The day continued in this spirit, with Mary Page
speaking to ‘Who is man’ by recounting a story about her basement flooding and
reminding us that we alone cannot solve all problems, instead we must turn to a higher
power in God to save us from our sins (in her example God was represented beautifully
by the plumber). We also had a busy and fun day full of trips, with Backpacking heading
out to Black Balsam Knob for an overnight, Mountain Biking heading to Lake James,
and Tweedle Doe heading to Montreat Swimming Hole for a cabin trip.

Back at camp, girls of all ages were working hard on new skills. In Canoeing we were
working on swamping and de-swamping the canoes, as well as playing “Queen of the
canoe”. Also on the dock, Diving was working on their T-I-O-I approach to a back dive.
Guitar had a blast playing songs like Kiptide, By and By, and Free Fallin’, developing
the musical talent that could one day lead them to the front of chapel! Frances P.
developed her leadership skills by hosting a pickleball tournament for her gold bar, while
Drama was playing games like “bus stop” with our lovely Tweedle Cabin Area Director
Cora.
Advanced Riding spent the day working on cantering and jumping, while swimmers pushed hard to earn their bars. After a light afternoon shower, a few activities had to pivot. During 4th period, Backpacking headed into the Camp Craft Hut to focus on wilderness first aid and compass skills—an exciting and valuable shift indoors.
The dining hall also saw some major wins today, with back-to-back hits for both lunch and dinner. Lunch featured a favorite combo of mac and cheese with mini corn dogs, plus an options bar stocked with chicken Caesar salad. Dinner didn’t disappoint either—sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, and sautéed veggies were served alongside a pasta bar with red sauce. To top it all off, dessert was a total crowd-pleaser: the return of the beloved Brownie Delight!
Dinner also brought an influx of camo and dark clothed counselors to the building
because it was time for Counselor Hunt! This elaborate game of hide and seek is super
exciting for campers of all ages, especially because it ends with throwing your favorite
counselor into wonderful Lake Doris!
With many fun activites, trips, and bonding time ahead, our campers went off to bed,
ready to dream about the satification of a successful Counselor Hunt.
Signing off,
Rachel E, Backpacking staff, Cross Partch counselor, and proud Red Wolf!
