Climbing, Canoeing, and Cupcakes, Oh My!
Climbing, Canoeing, and Cupcakes, Oh My!
Our first Tuesday of session 3B was full of excitement and new adventures from the beginning! Once we were all ready for the day and every cabin was squeaky clean, campers and counselors alike were ecstatic to find that it was french toast and sausage for breakfast! Afterward, Sunnyside led some of our favorite Tucker Inn songs. After breakfast, our trips headed out for full, fun days of adventure.

Here at camp, girls in all sorts of different activities got started after chapel, where we sang Isaiah 43 and Graves into Gardens, and heard another true story from Andrea, one of our Program Directors! In guitar, campers learned new chords, building their knowledge to one day play full songs! Our girls in PAWS had a great time working with our puppies on commands like sit, down, and roll over. It takes lots of patience for sure!
In basketball, we practiced 2/3 defense in order to prepare for scrimmages (which are in the near future!). Campers in Backpacking learned how to set up a tarp tent and practiced their new skills.
Climbing counselors were amazed when Coco W. was able to climb our infamous line route! It’s the hardest route we have here at camp, and Coco was the first camper they have seen to climb it all summer!
Lots of girls worked on and made progress toward their bars, and Macy S. earned her Bronze in Junior Lifeguarding after lots of hard work!
For lunch we enjoyed pizza and orange slices, then each tribe sang loud enough to be heard miles away. We were all thankful for a calm and quiet rest time, and then it was time for what some might call the most exciting part of the day… trading post! Campers enjoyed their snacks and candy during free time and got to hang out with new and old friends.
During our third and fourth activity periods, exciting things were happening all over camp! In DIY, girls started to carve their rubber stamps in a pattern they designed themselves last class! By the end of the session, each of them will be able to decorate their mail with a stamp they made with their own hands. Campers in pottery got a chance to start throwing on the wheel, which is a lot harder than it looks! Some attempted to make bowls while others opted to work with techniques they are already familiar with. All over camp we could smell the absolutely delicious chocolate cupcakes and icing our cooking chefs were making.
On Lake Doris, those in kayaking class practiced their rolls and wet exits, while canoeing learned how to swamp their boats and right them in case they ever need to.
For dinner, we all enjoyed tacos, rice, and veggies. At the options bar, nachos were a hit! Some girls were even willing to wait in a line that stretched across our entire dining hall. After cabin songs and announcements, it was finally time for battle ball! Each tribe battled each other in age group categories, and competition was high for spirit points tonight!
With a bit of time left before bed, the girls in Stardust got a surprise from some very special visitors… our PAWS puppies! Other cabins are also getting fun surprises like s’mores and even a nighttime free swim.
Tomorrow is sure to be yet another Merri day!
