It’s another beautiful day at Camp Merri Mac for Girls. The bugle sounds and the campers are up and at ’em, ready to start their day. Just like any great morning at camp, the girls enjoy some yummy breakfast casserole and blueberry pastries. Then it’s off to chapel, where we joined together in worship.
Some girls started their day with morning yoga, as they meditate and look out over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Others mount their bikes and speed down the hills and across the fields. Pottery is a fan favorite. The older girls learn how to throw pots on the wheel and the younger girls learn how to create beautiful slab mugs. In cooking they made all different types of delicious brownies and gobbled them up. Today was “Free Swim Friday” and the lake was a happening place. Girls made all sorts of accomplishments from their role in kayaking to facing their fears and jumping off the blob.
For lunch the campers ate PIZZA…and a lot of it. It’s always everyone’s favorite meal, so the dining hall rang with cheers of excitement.
During freetime the girls enjoyed Trading Post, tether ball, and hanging out with their friends by the lake. The Tweedles used their BIG imagination to make rafts out of leaves and pinecones to race down Tweedle Creek.
The activities continued as backpacking learned how to filter their own water. Even though the water was taken from Lake Doris, it tasted “just like Fiji water”! Many bull’s eyes were hit in archery and riflery. The girls gleefully trotted on horses around camp in riding class.
The white feather ceremony began after dinner and we gathered around the fire to celebrate our campers as the first week of camp winds down. Tonight everyone gets to spend some fun quality time with their cabins for CABIN NIGHT! I think Cross Patch is going to win this one! Let’s hope tomorrow is another day full of growth through friends and adventure!
