It’s been another Merri day! The mist lifted from the mountains this morning as the bugle rang reveille while campers yawned and greeted a new day. After chores, done in the competitive pursuit of the delicious cabin cake awarded to the cleanest cabin at the end of the week, girls walked down to the Tucker Inn for a breakfast treat- baked oatmeal, cinnamon apples and blueberry muffins! The girls meandered up to chapel to sing songs with Lainey G. and Margaret P. The words of Anchor for Our Soul, Father I Adore You and Good, Good Father floated out of the chapel. Lainey G. spoke at chapel about who God is and told the story of the prodigal son, and how God’s love is unconditional. Tonight each cabin will sit down and recall this message and discuss what this means in devotion time.
The sun shone brightly, though it was a cool day as all of the girls headed to their morning activities. Some girls got to head to Snakes Den for a nice beginner climbing trip. Katherine N., Eliza R., Alaina H., Brooke B., Lillian N., Katherine B., Ashlyn H., Lydia F., Charlotte Z., Elizabeth M., Margaret B., Layne S., and Allie M. embarked on the adventure. Another fun surprise was Sunnyside trip for our eldest girl cabins- they left this morning with Chick-fil-a biscuits in their bellies and a lot of anticipation for the day. On the lake, canoeing class practiced their strokes and paddling, and kayaking practiced hip snaps- these skills will become handy on the river should they choose to sign up for an expedition!
At lunch today, campers enjoyed ham and cheese sandwiches and a camp favorite of waffle fries! Dreams Begin girls enjoyed leading tribal songs after the meal as Sunnyside tribal leaders were gone having a blast on their trip to Craggy Gardens and to explore some of Asheville. Tonights Evening activity was announced at lunch- the ever anticipated Cabin night! Girls will get to spend quality time with their cabins doing all of the fun activities their counselors have planned for them such as s’mores, laser tag, tie-dyeing t-shirts, playing with the puppies and even talent shows!
There is art and beauty to the routine at camp, from the 7 am reveille to 10 o’clock taps. The sound of the bugle echoes around camp each day to signal another time to make memories and grow with friends- thank you for sharing your daughters with us this summer, we just can’t get enough of these sweet summer days!
