Mission Impossible
It was yet another lovely Thursday morning at Camp Merri-Mac. We woke up with the sun shining after a rain shower yesterday and cleaned up our cabins. We then headed down for breakfast where we had French toast sticks and some yummy sausage links.
After breakfast, the girls ran to the chapel where we sang Anchor for our Soul and Good Father. We had the opportunity to get to hear Elizabeth Olvey and her message on Who is Man? She read from Luke 15:1-10 where Jesus tells the Pharisees that He is like a shepherd looking for that one sheep that left the herd. She also tells us that once he “finds” us, He rejoices and celebrates our return.
We then set out for our first couple of activities of the morning. After morning activities, we had a savory chicken sandwich and apple slices. We were surprised by a shark costume mob dance by counselors. They definitely had the whole dining room up and dancing with them. After Morgan Sarkin announces the winner of counselor hunt… Red Wolves, and also spirit points… Black Bears. She also announced that tonight’s evening activity was Mission Impossible.
Mission Impossible involves a strong strategy, teamwork, and brainpower. Each tribe splits into groups with various tweedles, bear campers, and senior hill girls within each group. The girls run around camp to different stations to complete specific tasks in order to claim that territory for their tribe. Each tribe has spies to communicate with their chiefs and elders to signal when they believe they have control over all the bases. Bases include and are not limited to basketball, archery, and also trivia. Once one tribe has control over all the bases (and if called)… they win!
After lunch, the girls headed to a rest time where they had the opportunity to take a nap, read a book, or even write a letter to someone. The rest hour is a quiet time to process and rest for their upcoming activities. After a hour rest, girls make their way to a trade-shop, where they can get a drink and candy. The rest of the day we spent on the last two activities where we learned to pack a backpacking bag or our inner balance and so much more!
After dinner we cleared our tables, we then sang our cabin songs with great pride. In addition to dinner, we headed off to play Mission Impossible. So much laughter and spirit was heard throughout camp.
Lastly, we ended the day by spending some quality time in our own cabins where some made milkshakes, played some dodgeball, and even pickleball. Sometimes the best memories come from the cabin.
After a long day, the girls headed to bed awaiting for the next day has to come.
