White Feather and Final Campfire
It’s another day at Merri Mac but this morning it was a little bit different. Today was 2Fs last day at camp until next summer! We are so sad to see these girls go!
This morning we woke up and headed down to breakfast for scrambled eggs, sausage links, and seasoned diced potatoes- YUM! After breakfast, the girls headed to chapel but today we celebrated our Sunnysiders by holding Sunnyside chapel on the lake. Sunnysiders are our leaders and are the oldest cabins. They sit on the edge of the dock expressing their favorite memories, bible verses, and favorite knowledge that camp has provided over the years while everyone else sits on the banks to watch as these girls reminisce. To end Sunnyside chapel, they jump in the lake!
Activities continued as they wrapped up the skills they have been working on these past two weeks. Riflery was working on perfecting their aims, Paws bathed the sweet puppies so they are fresh and clean for closing day, and backpacking was learning how to start campfires for their delicious smores. After first and second period, the girls headed to lunch. Today was Gyros with potato crisps! At the end of lunch, cabin cakes were awarded to the cleanest cabins in every area of camp. After lunch, we had an hour of rest and practiced for the closing ceremony. Practice ended with SONGFEST!!! The Red Wolves won again!! Third and Fourth period started shortly after. At the lake, campers got to free swim today which is always so exciting because we opened the blob and the slip and slide. For dinner, we got to have Hawaiian BBQ meatballs with pasta and roasted carrots. After dinner, we had our final campfire where girls were presented awards for things that they participated in around camp such as frog catching, bronze, silver, and gold bars in activities, and a combat roll on a river. We had two girls get awarded white feathers tonight and we are so proud of them!! You can find our award-winning girls below.
We finish the night with Final Campfire and Lakeside! Final Campfire consists of all the cabins coming together to reminisce on the memories made throughout these two weeks. It is also where Sunnyside gives out suns to their friends, counselors, and siblings to show their appreciation for them while they were at camp. Lakeside is a long-standing tradition that involves everyone coming together for one last time for a bonfire, to sing songs and light a candle with wishes to send out into the lake.
