Tribefest & Last White Feather for 1A

Tribefest & Last White Feather for 1A
Hi all! Today was another amazing day at Camp Merri-Mac! This morning, campers woke up to a hearty egg and sausage casserole and a warm lemon poppyseed muffin for breakfast. Following breakfast the girls trekked up to the chapel to hear the good news of who Jesus is from Will Troxler. He shared a story of when he went to the waterpark for one of the first times as a kid. His dad instructed him to stay close and not wander off. Young Will instead decided to go on a water slide even though he was not a strong swimmer. He quickly realized his mistake when he entered the water and needed assistance. When his dad found him and learned what had happened, he forgave Will despite his mistake. That’s what Jesus does for us too. When we sin, Jesus tells us that we are worthy of forgiveness because of who He is and what He has done for us.
At the end of chapel, the girls got a BIG surprise! Today was TRIBEFEST! The excitement was so powerful that you could hear the cheers on the other side of camp! After they learned this, they hurried up to their cabins and put on their tribal gear to prepare for tribal trash, a game where tribes compete to see who can clean camp up the most! After tribal trash, it was time for base jumping! Campers are given the task of relocating a slip of paper to an area of camp to earn points for their tribe. The only thing in their way is a stinger (a counselor with a sock). If they get hit by the sock, they must forfeit their paper, return to their home base to retrieve a new one and try again.
Some campers today had the opportunity to explore the area surrounding camp and go on an adventure! One of these adventure opportunities was the rafting trip, which included:
Amelia T.
Marielle R.
Reagan M.
Emerson L.
Helen H.
Carlisle K.
Lydia L.
Kate M.
Caroline M.
Ingrid B.
Charlotte C.
Sidney M.
Lucy M.
Ava R.
Charlotte T.
Elizabeth T.
E.V. S.
Rafting wasn’t the only opportunity that girls had to get out and explore today, we also had a trips hiking group go out including:
Afton C.
Lillie D.
Ellaree H.
Elizabeth K.
Marion S.
Uma V.
Riley Y.
Taylor Y.
Following these activities, the girls then got to have one of the most beloved meals at camp for lunch, Greek Day! Greek Day consists of pita pockets filled with lamb, hummus, tzatziki, feta, olives, and so much more! With bellies full, they paraded back to their cabins, some to rest and some to start getting packed and ready to head home with help from their counselors. After rest time, girls had the opportunity to trading post and indulge in one of their last candies of the session! After a restful break, campers got back to work for their tribe! The next game for the day was swim fest! Girls had the opportunity to swim for their tribe and compete in different strokes and jumps. Girls had a laugh as the final part of swim fest rolled around. The last act calls for the leaders of each tribe to compete in a belly flop competition. Campers got to see their chiefs show their love and sacrifice for their tribe as they flopped into the water. Quickly after swim fest, dinner arrived! Campers cheered for a meal of chicken alfredo pasta with breadsticks and veggies, a camp classic! The kitchen then stole the girls hearts with a dessert of brownie delight. The girls were so thankful that they sang a song to the kitchen staff, calling them out to let them know that they love and appreciate what they do for our camp! Since it’s Friday night, after dinner campers gathered at the Teepee to honor those at camp who made great strides during the past week at white feather. Commendations were given to campers who showed up for their cabin in different ways that week and girls who made achievements in their activities were acknowledged and given a pin.

Congratulations to the 200 girls who earned Bronze this week!
As they sat around the fire they ended the ceremony in unison saying “Merri-Mac, first, last, and always.” After White Feather, the camp came together for a fun night of cheering on the Tweedles in “Newcomb” a game where tweedles play a version of volleyball that is suited to their skills. The tweedles got to show off their skills and the older girls got to give them their love and support! After the activity, girls meandered back to their cabins to spend one last night as a cabin family together. Making same of their last memories for session 1A. The campers had a day that set them up for great sleep! A day of working hard during tribal games and living in community that will fuel their dreams with sweet memories of their camp experience.
Anna Jowanowitch, Cabin Area Director of Senior Hill, Head of Backpacking, and a proud Black Bear!
