A Merry Campmas: Celebrating Christmas in July!
A Merry Campmas: Celebrating Christmas in July!
What an amazing start to a new week at camp! Today was Christmas in July and the festivities started as soon as the campers opened their eyes. After they got to sleep in an extra hour, the donut truck visited every cabin area, serving Krispy Kreme donuts, hot chocolate, Gogurt, and more, while playing all our favorite Christmas songs. After breakfast everyone headed to chapel where Mary Page talked about “Who is Jesus?” Her hilarious, true story perfectly demonstrated how Jesus made the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Activities were in full swing after that, with partaking in Christmas themed lessons. Cooking made Christmas pasta: pasta with pesto and red sauce. Paws, after a fun and productive clicker training lesson, made ornaments to decorate the activity area.
We had three trips out today:
HIKING Hawksbill Mountain:
Scarlett I.
Carley L.
Ann Caldwell M.
Milly R.
Carly S.
MOUNTAIN BIKING around Lake James:
Emma Grace G.
Miller M.
Jillian J.
Maye N.
Ashley H.
KAYAKING at Nathanal Camp Cup:
Lyla J.
Poppy S.
Georgia N.
Tizzy P.
Lunch was a fan favorite: chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, corn, and rolls. The girls relaxed during rest hour and earned bars and participated in sports tournaments hosted by their camp peers during free time! Then the girls went back to their classes to finish their activity filled day. DIY started making bead lizard key chains and pottery began glazing their pieces to get them ready for the kiln. Then, we had breakfast for dinner, a Christmas at camp classic. After dinner, everyone headed out to play gold rush! In this game, the campers compete to find gold and deliver it to their tribe without being tagged by a bandit (counselors). If they are tagged, the camper and counselor have to go in front of a court and plead their case as to why they deserve the gold. If the camper wins, they get to keep the gold and give it to their tribe. If they lose, they also lose the gold.
Overall, I would say Christmas in July was a major success, packed full of fun and cheer!
I can’t wait to see what excitement tomorrow brings,
