It’s a Merri Day! This morning at camp, we kicked off our first full day of camp! Following a breakfast of biscuits, gravy and eggs (and cheerful singing!), campers head to the Chapel to sing together and hear a message from Will Troxler. Then campers headed to their tribal meetings where they introduced their tribal songs to those who were newly initiated.

Campers headed to their daily activities, and lots was going on around Merri-Mac! In the pottery studio, campers made all sorts of pinch pots from turtles to flowers. Several students even got on the wheel! In rock climbing, campers climbed up the wall, shouting “I’m a mountain woman” as they reached the top. In PAWS, girls got to enjoy the sweet cuddles of our golden doodles, Daisy, Sonny, Scotty, Bandit and Doug.

Also, our very first trip of the summer headed out this morning! Campers went rafting on the French Broad River:

For lunch we gathered to enjoy one of our favorite meals, tacos in a bag! After lunch, the tribes all searched for the Hatchet, and Red Wolves found it!! (Legend says the tribe that finds the Hatchet will win the Banner!!)

The afternoon showers didn’t drench our plans! We carried on our Merri way and spent the afternoon playing tennis, canoeing in Doris and making mosaics in arts and crafts. For Evening Activity, we played Tribal Trivia in the Tucker Inn, and campers answered questions about History, Pop Culture and Camp!

The night ended with cabin time and devotions. It was a great first day to the camping season!!
