Most of our days at camp are action-packed — filled with activities, trips, competitions, and FUN! But once a week on Sundays, we slow down (just a bit!) to rest and recharge, practicing our own camp-y version of Sabbath.

Sunday mornings start an hour later than usual (which means MORE SLEEP! YAY!) and at breakfast something special is always served. (Today we had cinnamon rolls the campers were pumped!) Then we had Sunday Chapel, which means more worship songs and a cabin-lead teaching from The Jesus Storybook Bible. Today Sunnyside led Chapel and read “The Great Rescue.”

Lunch was Italian subs, broccoli cheddar soup and apple slices. After we ate, Cabin Cake winners were announced — CONGRATS to Tweedle Dee, Up Yonder, Milky Way and Cloud Nine! (Cabin Cakes are awarded to the cabins that had the highest “clean cabin” scores for the week, and they are VERY coveted!) Afterwards we had a longer rest hour to write letters, read and nap.

This afternoon, cabins signed up for various activities around camp: free swim at the lake, Battleball in the Mike, a talent show in the Chapel and even PRINCESS BINGO on Tweedle Porch! The sounds of lounging on the back green, tetherball tournaments, Gaga ball competitions, and girls hanging with their friends could be heard all over camp for the better part of the day.

On Sundays we wear white as a reminder for us to slow down (an 80 year tradition around here!) until dinner time when we dress up in a fun theme for Cookout and Vespers. Tonight’s theme was red + green because it’s Christmas Eve! (Christmas at camp means counselors caroling in the evening, socks filled with candy, sleeping in tomorrow morning and breakfast delivered to the cabins by Santa!) Sunday evenings we eat outside, and hotdogs, burgers, pasta salad, and red velvet cookies were on the menu tonight! The CITs just got back from their 5-day hiking and camping trip, and they grilled out and served the camp for dinner. (We love and appreciate them so much!!)

After Cookout, we gathered back in the Chapel for Vespers, where we sang fun songs (led by our very own Black Mountain Oysters band!), laughed at silly skits, and heard a longer message about God and Jesus. Mary Page shared a story about her best friend that demonstrated how what we think of ourselves doesn’t matter; the only thing that matters is what God thinks of us. Vespers is SO fun!! Then it was back to our cabins for counselor carols, and whispers of, “Shhh! I hear Santa coming!” were heard from the Tweedles cabins.

We love having your girls here; thank you for sharing them with us! They are having the best time, and so are we!!
