Today was a star-spangled day at Merri Mac as we celebrated the Fourth of July! Campers woke up to the Sunnysiders singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” around camp, kicking off a fun-filled day of patriotic festivities. For breakfast, we enjoyed festive American flag pancakes topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries while singing favorite songs like “Party in the USA.”

After breakfast, we gathered in chapel, where Mary Page shared a story from her childhood about how her little brother pulled out his own tooth in hopes of winning their family poker game. She connected this story to how Jesus completely changed the game for us through His love and sacrifice, reminding us of the powerful message found in John 3:16.

After chapel, campers headed off to their morning activities. In Cooking, girls made delicious mango mousse, while Backpacking campers learned how to safely use a camping stove and even made hot chocolate! Just before lunch, the camp gathered for an exciting hot dog eating competition for the staff. Congratulations to Kate R. from Moonmist, who took home the victory after eating an impressive seven hot dogs! For lunch, campers enjoyed classic Fourth of July favorites—corn dogs and macaroni and cheese.

After rest hour, everyone cooled off with delicious Pelican’s SnoBalls during free time before heading back to afternoon activities. In Guitar, campers practiced new chords and learned new songs, while Cheer girls worked hard on their tumbling skills and continued improving their routines.

Dinner was a delicious backyard-style BBQ cookout that perfectly fit our Independence Day celebration. To end the evening, Mr. Steve led camp in lively square dancing, where campers and counselors laughed, danced, and made wonderful memories together. As a special treat, everyone enjoyed refreshing Cheerwine floats to top off an unforgettable Fourth of July!

Today was full of laughter, friendship, and patriotic fun, and we can’t wait to see what adventures tomorrow brings!
