During devotion last night, Sunnyside reflected on Lamentations 3:22 – 23.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to and end;

they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

Some of the girls in Sunnyside slept in hammocks on the cabin porch last night, and as the sun rose over camp Merri-Mac today, we enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation.

Today was a fun-filled first day of camp! At breakfast we sang “Ratland Bog,” followed by “How He Loves” during chapel.

At camp craft girls learned about backpacking backpacks and how to pack one, while in cooking we made chocolate chocolate-chip cupcakes. During fencing, they learned the  proper footwork so that, as the instructor Anna said, “You will able to fence beautifully without tripping!” Mary Grace B., Annabell M., Katie G., Gracie T., and Kristie G. took advantage of the beautiful day and went on a kayaking trip to the French Broad.

In riflery, the girls reviewed proper gun safety and positioning. During tennis they worked on forehands and volleys. During dinner Robin, a Blue Heaven counselor, performed “Co-counselors,” a song she wrote accompanied by ukelele.

After dinner, the Choctaw and Iroquois tribes had a heated game of volleyball, while the Seminoles went to get some ice-cream. The theme for volleyball was “Western” and the girls had fun getting on their favorite denim vests and shorts, and cowboy boots.
