Today is our last full day of camp! We are cherishing every moment with our campers, and while we know they are so excited to see you tomorrow, we are already getting teary-eyed at the thought of letting them go!

This morning, after breakfast (coffee cake and baked oatmeal), we had Sunnyside Chapel. Typically chapel is led by counselors and held in our chapel, but for the last chapel of each session, our oldest campers take over. The whole camp sits on the banks of the lake and the Sunnysiders (traditionally in their Sunnyside shirts and overalls) sit on the dock as they lead worship and teaching. Today they sang “Oceans,” and it was so moving to hear the words of that song sung over the water! Then the Sunnysiders shared their favorite camp memories from when they were younger, Bible verses that have had an impact on them, and wisdom from their camp time. Then, to end chapel, they all jumped in the lake! (Yes, it was cold, but it’s tradition!) There were a lot of happy/sad tears — this is an amazing group of campers and we are going to miss them!

Activities went on as usual today, with campers finishing up the last bits of their projects and bars. Lunch was a camp favorite: GREEK DAY! There were audible squeals of excitement for these DIY gyros! And then, at the end of lunch, cabin cakes (which are given to the cabins with the highest overall cleanliness scores for the week) were given out!

This afternoon we practiced Closing Ceremonies for tomorrow, and we are ready for you, families! Closing Ceremonies have been on hold since 2020, so we are so excited to welcome everyone back onto our campus and into The Mike tomorrow!!

For dinner we had spaghetti and meatballs, and then held our final White Feather ceremony for the session. (White Feather is the highest achievement a camper may earn while at camp. White Feather is earned by earning “marks” through achievement in activities, leadership and extra-curriculars. Each week, we have a White Feather ceremony that recognizes and awards campers on their journey toward White Feather through Camper and Counselor Commendations, activity bars, and new rank promotions.) We had four girls earn White Feather this week, and we are so proud!! (See below for a full list of White Feather promotions.)

And then we held Lakeside. The last evening of each session, we gather together around Lake Doris to sing and spend time together for one last night. It’s a beautiful and emotional ceremony, ending with candles being set adrift on the water, and it’s a favorite, vivid memory for most campers.

Parents, we can’t wait to see you tomorrow, but we don’t want to say goodbye to your amazing girls!!
